You might think that a stone with a name similar to Leopard it might love water, but long term exposure to water can have harmful effects on Lepidolite.

Can Lepidolite Stone Get Wet?

Yes! There are really only two different sources of water that you might say are "bad" for Lepidolite.

The first is really acidic water.

This kind of water can harm these Mica stones because the acid in the water will actually dissolve a small amount of our crystal.

But!

Despite it being very easily scratched (a crazy low 2.5 on Mohs scale of hardness), this mineral is very resistant to chemicals.

Which means acidic water will not hurt Lepidolite. It would require VERY strong acid to do significant damage.

So you should still be careful, but you don't have to worry too much.

The only water that's worth worrying about is water with lots of limestone (the stuff that you see on your showerhead).

It's not directly harmful to your Lepidolite, but can leave a crust on the surface.

Do not fear! That can be removed easily with a bit of gentle rubbing.

How to Cleanse Lepidolite

Lepidolite is part of the Mica family, so we like to return it to the earth to cleanse it.

You can cleanse your Lepidolite by buring it in dirt for 24hrs.

We HIGHLY recommend wrapping your stone in a cloth of some sort to prevent dirt from falling into the cracks.

After 24hrs, dig up your freshly cleansed Lepidolite stone!

Will Water Make Lepidolite Change Color?

Much to our dismay, water will not make Lepidolite change color.

But be honest, would you be upset if it could?

That would be pretty darn cool.

These physical properties don't have any relation to it's LOW 2.5 rank on Mohs scale of hardness, the fact is that neither water not sun will change crystalline structure.

If a 2.5/10 sounds low to you... it is!

You can scratch this crystal just by using your fingernail!

Can You Wash Lepidolite?

Some stones like Blue Pectolite can't handle soaps or acids.

But vinegar bath is perfect for stones like Lepidolite!

Since Lepidolite isn't as sensitive to water as Talc, you don't have to worry about it dissolving when you wash it.

If you want to clean your crystal, feel free to use acid or water.

But don't use anything that's hard to scrub at it! You will scratch it, and maybe even break it.

Having fragile stones is the price we pay for this purple princess's energy.

Charging Water with Lepidolite

Good news! You can charge water at home using Lepidolite.

But!

You've gotta make sure that this stone is safe first. You don't want to use any mineral that can dissolve or corrode in water, and stay clear of any minerals unfit for human consumption.

There are also some methods for charging water with stones by placing them around a jar or on top of a water bottle lid rather than directly put in the water.

Lepidolite Infused Water Benefits

Some people drink lepidolite-infused water just to improve their overall well-being and health.

This kind of drink is often called a Lepidolite elixir.
